This program is an exciting option for students interested in the many career possibilities available under the Veterinary/Animal Sciences (VAS) umbrella while also having the opportunity to work side by side with professionals in the field.

The Curriculum will entail:

• Veterinary/Animal Science safety and Health care knowledge
• Basic animal science and husbandry care skills focusing primarily on small animals, but also including; livestock, poultry, horses, and exotics, laboratory animals, marine animals, fish, reptiles, amphibians, birds and wildlife conservation.

Additional curriculum topics include:

• Veterinary medical terminology
• Anatomy and Physiology
• Breeding and genetics
• Clinical Laboratory techniques
• Medication and Mathematics
• Nutrition
• Animal Welfare and Rights
• Research
• Zoonosis
• The Professional Animal industry inclusive of pet grooming, training, kennel management.
  
  

With the Academic and Practical applications associated with our program, the career options in the Veterinary/Animal Sciences umbrella are broad and our VAS program will prepare students for career paths right out of high school and/or a strong foundation for college.

Students will be trained as veterinary assistants working side by side with veterinarians, veterinary technologists and technicians, and veterinary office staff with our Partners at Second Chance Animal Hospital.

Students will also be prepared for many different externship and Co-Op opportunities with our partners in the area. At the completion of our program, students will be qualified to sit for the Certified Veterinary Assistant Exam (CVA) by senior year.

Upon graduation students will also achieve certification in: OSHA 10-hour card: General Industry and CPR certification/healthcare provider
